The Revised Curve Number Rainfall–Runoff Methodology for an Improved Runoff Prediction

چکیده
The Curve Number (CN) rainfall–runoff model is a widely used method for estimating the amount of rainfall and runoff, but its accuracy in predicting runoff has been questioned globally due to failure produce precise predictions. was developed by United States Department Agriculture (USDA) Soil Conservation Services (SCS) 1954, data documentation about development are incomplete, making it difficult reassess validity. originally using 1954 dataset plotted USDA on log–log scale graph, with proposed linear correlation between two key variables (Ia S), given Ia = 0.2S. However, instead antilog equation power form S0.2) simplification, 0.2S formulate current SCS-CN model. To date, researchers have not challenged this potential oversight. This study reevaluated CN testing reliability performance from Malaysia, China, Greece. results showed that can be formulated improved S?. Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (E) indexes ranged 0.786 0.919, while Kling–Gupta Efficiency (KGE) 0.739 0.956. S ratios (Ia/S) were range [0.009, 0.171], which line worldwide reported ratio mostly 5% or lower nowhere near value 0.2 (20%) suggested SCS.

The process of precipitation – runoff of each basin, is influenced by hydrologic, geomorphology conditions, geological formation and vegetation. There are different methods in drainage basins. One way to estimate the runoff height is Curve Number (CN) method. That reperesents the hydrological behavior of basin. data were collected for statistics of climate and then topographic map of 1: 25000 a...

The rainfall and runoff relationship becomes an intriguing issue as urbanization continues to evolve worldwide. In this paper, we developed a simulation model based on the soil conservation service curve number (SCS-CN) method to analyze the rainfall-runoff relationship in Guangzhou, a rapid growing metropolitan area in southern China. The SCS-CN method was initially developed by the Natural Re...

The major problem in the assessment of relationships between rainfall and runoff occurs when a study is carried out in ungauged watersheds in the absence of hydro-climatic data. This study aims to evaluate the applicability of Natural Resources Conservation Service-Curve Number (NRCS-CN) method together with GIS in estimating runoff depth in a mountainous watershed. The study was carried out in...

In Iran, there is a general risk of runoff and flood, and since this country has a dry to semi-arid climate, its predominant rainfall is not evenly distributed in terms of time and place. Routine runoff at the earth's surface can lead to risks such as groundwater abatement, social issues such as population migration, erosion and loss of soil fertility, sedimentation in reservoirs and water q...

[1] The Soil Conservation Service curve number (SCS-CN) method is widely used to predict storm runoff for hydraulic design purposes, such as sizing culverts and detention basins. As traditionally used, the probability of calculated runoff is equated to the probability of the causative rainfall event, an assumption that fails to account for the influence of variations in soil moisture on runoff ...
